Public Schools
Students enrolling in grades pre-K through 12 enroll in Metro Nashville Public Schools. The school district has a mission to deliver a great public education to every student, every day. Through a rigorous curriculum, students are prepared to enter college, a trade or technical school or immediate employment upon graduation.
The Donelson Hermitage area is zoned as the McGavock Cluster with includes the following schools:
9th-12th Grade
Charter Schools
Non-Zoned Schools
- Stanford Elementary
- The Academy at Opry Mills (serves ages 17-21)

Registering a Student
In order to enroll/register students, MNPS recommends parents and/or legal guardians use their online portal. On the portal, you can:
- Apply for a Student Identification Number
- Once you have a Student ID, you can begin the process of applying for Pre-K, Kindergarten, an optional school or registering for your student's zoned school.
- Register for school
- Upload required documents
This process can be completed on computers and smart phones. An email address is necessary to begin the application. Families can call their nearest Enrollment Center for assistance.

Private Schools
In addition to our public school system, the Donelson area is also home to two private schools:
- Holy Rosary Catholic Academy (Pre-K-8th Grade)
- Donelson Christian Academy (K-12th Grade)
Holy Rosary Catholic Academy offers its students the opportunity to participate in a wide array of activities. 91.3% of 8th Grade Graduates typically transition into one of the three Nashville Diocesan Catholic High Schools: Father Ryan High School, Pope John Paul II High School, or Saint Cecilia Academy. Holy Rosary Catholic Academy students in Grades 1st-8th consistently score approximately one year ahead of students nationally on the IOWA Test of Basic Skills administered each year in the Spring.
Donelson Christian Academy is a Christian private school that serves students from Preschool through 12th Grade. DCA offers a rigorous academic program with college-preparatory curriculum, including numerous Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement (AP) courses along with a wide variety of extracurricular programs
Special Education
The Donelson area is also home to the Tennessee School for the Blind. TSB strives to provide free, appropriate, and individualized educational services to eligible students in a safe environment that will promote independence and a positive self-image, as well as provide information and technical assistance to families, schools, and agencies serving all Tennessee children who are visually challenged.
Students attending TSB have a wide variety of programs and activities available both in and outside of the classroom. Each day is filled with tailored plans and ideas, implemented by trained and caring staff. TSB offers a learning experience specifically designed for the enrichment and advancement of each child.
